DAIPANbutoh Collective presents the Seattle Butoh Festival 2022: Emergence on November 18 and 19 at eXit SPACE/NOD Theater on Capitol Hill. DAIPAN is pleased to return to the former Velocity venue where the collective held two well-received festivals years ago.

KAORU OKUMURA
“SHADOW FLOWER”

Kaoru Okumura’s original “Shadow Flower” premiered 10 years ago, with a resonance to the AJISAI (hydrangea) Revolution, 2012 Tokyo. This piece reveals an old prostitute, overlayed with images of the naked nuclear core with falling water in Fukushima.

HELEN THORSEN’S TRIO
"VESSEL"

Helen Thorsen’s trio, with her dedicated dancers Mary Cutrera and Cara Ross Berman, is entitled “Vessel.” As she shares, “so much time has passed- I lost two former lovers this year- no returns- time and dances move through me a slow thread unraveling.” Local trio Gyre will perform live.

“DNA”

Joan Laage/Kogut Butoh’s piece “dna” is part of her body of work bringing to life her ancestry imaginatively, recalling time spent in search of roots in Denmark and Germany. Local musicians Dmitry Artamonov and David Noble created the soundtrack.

“FLA TIGRE”

Set In a cosmic musical landscape, Alycia Scott Zollinger’s “Fla Tigre” seeks to liberate body-minds through fierce hybridity in loving motion. Melia Dodge and Hana Shiozaki join her with live music by Leanna Keith and Stephanie Wood and a set designed by Melia.

"IN OUR SHOES"

Robyn Bjornson’s new solo “In our shoes” is an exploration of finding the archetypes that live inside humanity. Christopher Arnett will perform his composition created especially for this piece on electric piano.

“THE LAST POTATO”

Sheri Brown and Dhyana Garcia team up with Nando Rocha in “Sacrament and Gluttony: The Last Potato,” a humorous piece with: Scott Adams (guitar & accordion), Monica Schley (harp), Rosalynn De Roos (clarinet), Ken Jacobson (bass), Kai Strandskov (drums) and costumes by Jô de Oliveira.
